David Beran joined the US Army delayed entry program in February 1973. After gradating from Saint Patricks High school in May 1973, he proceeded to Leonard Wood, MO in June 1973. He graduated Basic Combat Training with A Co, 2nd Bn, 3rd Bde in August 1973. He then attended Advanced Individual Training (AIT) as a 31M1O (Multichannel Communications Specialist) at Fort Gordon, GA graduating in December 1973. His first duty station was Camp Casey, South Korea where January 1974. He was assigned to A Co, 122 Signal Bn, 2nd Infantry Division.
He was then transferred to Fort Lewis, WA and assigned to 268 Signal and then 9th Signal. He then PCS’d Back to Sound Korea at OSAN AFB as part of HHB, 38th Air Defense Artillery Bde serving both Site Washington and Site Mangilsan.
He then PCS’d to Fort Bragg, NC with D Co, 25th Signal Bn serving as RDF Squad Leader.
His next assignment was with D Co, 11th AD signal Bn servings as Training NCO of a 526 man unit for several years. Upon his reenlistment he completed training for 15J Lance/MLRS Fire Direction at Fort Sill, OK. He was then assigned to D Btry, Training Command Bn as Chief Fire Direction Trainer where he trained 3 Battalions and 5 separate units.
He was then assigned as a Fire Direction Chief for C Btry, 4/12 Lance Bn.
He then returned to Fort Sill, OK assigned as a Senior Trainer for 13P Senior NCO’s and Officers.
His training includes, Basic Combat Training, 31M Multichannel Communications Specialist, Basic Leadership Course, Primary Leadership Course, 15J/13PMLRS/Lance Fire Direction, BNCOC, ANCOC, PET, and Instructor Course.
